Indirect heating

An indirect heater, the F30 can be used in enclosed spaces (if installed correctly). This is because indirect heaters separate combustion from the air heating process. Therefore, exhaust fumes can be ported to a safe location for dispersal.

Stainless steel combustion chamber

The F30 Master is fitted with a stainless steel combustion chamber. A highly conductive material, stainless steel guarantees efficient transfer between the chamber and the air that the heater is heating.

Exhaust Flue

The F 30 comes with an exhaust flue system. This flue system, when installed correctly (a service Idropower can provide!), can carry exhaust fumes to a safe external location where they can disperse.

High fuel capacity and autonomy

The F30 boasts the best fuel economy and autonomy of the Master F range. Using 2.18L/h of fuel with a tank 80L in capacity, the F30 can run continuously for 36 hours before needing a refuel.

Thermostatic controls

The thermostat system of the Master F 30, while helping with temperature regulation, also serves to extend the heater’s autonomy. Already at 36 hours, the thermostat can extend running periods to days and days, before you need to get the fuel can!

Heat Output

For slightly smaller locations, the Master F 30 boasts 27.55kW (94’000 Btu/h) of heat output at an airflow rate of 2’700 cubic metres per hour. In other words, the F 30 could fill a space the size of an Olympic swimming pool (c.2’500m3) with heated air in less than an hour.

4-sided air plenum

To allow for maximum coverage the F 30 boasts a 4-sided air plenum. This means the F 30 can push heat outwards in all directions. However, the vents on each side can also be shut, to make the F 30 more directional.

Summer Ventilation

Cold in the winter, but hot and stuffy in the summer? The F 30 comes with a summer function. The summer function isolates the heater’s fan element.

Centrifugal Fan

Both winter and summer settings use a centrifugal fan to circulate air.

Indirect heating

The F 60 is an indirect heater. This means it separates heat production from the combustion process. The result, therefore, is hot air that is unaltered in quality. The oxygen levels are not diminished and combustion by-products such as carbon dioxide and, potentially, carbon monoxide are not added to the air you breathe. In comparison to direct oil-fired heaters, the F 60 can be installed internally, in enclosed spaces.

Stainless steel combustion chamber

To maximise heat transfer efficiency, Master has manufactured the F 60’s combustion chamber out of stainless steel. A highly conductive metal, the chamber encloses a burning flame. This flame transfers heat to the wall of the chamber, which then efficiently transfers heat energy to the air that is pulled through the heater. The heated air is then pushed out into the space, warming you and your surroundings up.

Exhaust Flue

To ensure exhaust fumes are safely expelled, the Master F60 comes with an exhaust flue. The flue carries the by-products of combustion to a suitable location. For example, the Idropower office’s BF 35 (a precursor to the F60), is fitted with a flue through our office wall. The fluke carries exhaust safely outside, so it can disperse harmlessly.

High fuel capacity and autonomy

Sporting the same size fuel tank (110L) as the thirstier F 80, the F 60 boasts fantastic fuel autonomy. Burning fuel at 4.71 L/h, the F 60 can run continuously for 23 hours before needing a refill.

Thermostatic controls

The thermostatic controls only extend the autonomy of the F 60. Regulating temperature, the thermostat will switch your F 60 off and on as required. Keeping a steady temperature, the F 60 will also not run continuously, extending its running time between refills. (Saving you extra trips back and forth with the fuel can!)

Heat Output

The Master F 60 creates 59.63 kW (203’500 Btu/h) of heat output. To put this into perspective, a home boiler is usually in the region of 30-35kW. Where home boilers are designed to heat the separate rooms of an entire house, the Master F 60 concentrates this extra power in a manner that will make it effective in open commercial and industrial spaces.

4-sided air plenum

Albeit static, the F60 preserves its directionality by boasting a 4-sided air plenum, with closable vents. This means that you can leave the vents open, having your F60 propel heat in all directions. Or, you can close one or two sides and have the heater propel heat in the direction you need it. This is invaluable if you have the heater against the wall, a common installation position. Therefore, you can close the side that would only push heat into the wall.

Summer Ventilation

Feeling hot hot hot

The advantage of direct heat generation for open and semi-open environments is the sheer efficiency and volume at which they operate. So long as the space is well-ventilated (which open and semi-open spaces tend to be), direct heating does not separate combustion and heat production. This means no heat is lost when trying to separate exhaust and heat. Plus, it means the heat is easy to expulse into the workspace. The result, therefore, is 3’300m3 of heated air being produced an hour.

Right where you need it

The B360 might be the biggest of the range, but they’re still mobile. Mounted on a sturdy chassis and frame, boasting chunky wheels and handles, the B360 is still easy to position where you need them.

Easy to use

After you’ve got your B360 right where you need it, using it is as simple as turning it on. Available with either an analogue or digital thermostat: set it to your desired temperature and let the heater do the rest. If the temperature drops too low the heater will strike into action. Once back up to the desired temperature, the heater will go into standby.

Direct vs Indirect Heating

The difference between direct and indirect heaters is simply how these heaters expel heat. The way to think about a direct and indirect heater, therefore, could be the distinction between an open and closed fireplace. A direct heater is similar to the open fireplace and the indirect heater is similar to the stove. 

Why is the direct heater similar to an open fireplace?

The direct heater is similar to the open fireplace as it expels heat by throwing out the air that it uses as part of the combustion process. Of course, in a direct heater, the combustion process is cleaner and better protected than in an open fire. 

The positives of direct heating are that the heat efficiency is as high as it possibly can be. Less energy is lost as the heat does not have to be transferred. Therefore, the temperature and rate of heat expulsion can be much higher for a direct heater than for an indirect one. The higher efficiency often leads to greater airflow too, meaning the hot air can be thrown quicker and further into an open space.

The negative of direct heating is that the hot air from the heater is essentially the exhaust of the heater. Direct heaters, therefore, are only to be used in well-ventilated spaces.

Direct vs Indirect Heating

The difference between direct and indirect heaters is simply how these heaters expel heat. The way to think about a direct and indirect heater, therefore, could be the distinction between an open and closed fireplace. A direct heater is similar to the open fireplace and the indirect heater is similar to the stove. 

Why is the direct heater similar to an open fireplace?

The direct heater is similar to the open fireplace as it expels heat by throwing out the air that it uses as part of the combustion process. Of course, in a direct heater, the combustion process is cleaner and better protected than in an open fire. 

The positives of direct heating are that the heat efficiency is as high as it possibly can be. Less energy is lost as the heat does not have to be transferred. Therefore, the temperature and rate of heat expulsion can be much higher for a direct heater than for an indirect one. The higher efficiency often leads to greater airflow too, meaning the hot air can be thrown quicker and further into an open space.

The negative of direct heating is that the hot air from the heater is essentially the exhaust of the heater. Direct heaters, therefore, are only to be used in well-ventilated spaces.

Why is the indirect heater similar to a fireplace stove?

An indirect heater is similar to a fireplace stove as the heat generated in combustion is separated from the heat expelled by the heater.

The positives of indirect heating are that the hot air is clean as the exhaust is expelled separately. An indirect heater, therefore, can be used to heat closed spaces with less ventilation (so long as the exhaust is flue or outside of the space you want heating). It is common, therefore, for an indirect heater to be placed externally to a space, where the exhaust can be freely dispersed via a chimney. Or, for the heater to be fitted with a flue that pipes the exhaust to a space where it can disperse. The hot air is then flued into the location you want heating up.

The negative of indirect heating is reduced efficiency in comparison to direct heaters. The heat generated in combustion needs to be transferred across a protective material, before being expelled from the heater. As efficient as it can be, this transfer process naturally incurs a reduction in heating potential.
