Why would I want a pressure washer that doesn’t move!?

It is wrong to assume that a mobile pressure washer, due to its manoeuvrability, boasts greater utility. Where a mobile pressure washer certainly allows you to move between locations to clean (so long as there is suitable power and water supplies), the HSC is right where you left it. Moreover, the cabinet design and strength of the structure facilitates a range of cleaning equipment setup and storage configurations.

An Ehrle HSC, with its cabinet design, has space for internal storage and external fixtures. For example, internally an HSC can store its 60L diesel tank and 2x20L chemical tanks. And, externally, it is possible to attach hose reels and/or lance and gun holders to their walls or other suitable, nearby structures, giving you plenty of options to optimise your setup (we are also happy to assess, advise and suggest configurations too!). 

Who needs an Ehrle HSC?

There is by no means a one-size-fits-all solution. However, we have found the HSC range is particularly popular among hauliers and food factories that require exceptional hygiene-cleanliness levels. Why this is the case varies. However, it tends to be because these companies have dedicated spaces for (or that need) cleaning. Therefore, an HSC can typically be placed at the heart of these spaces and left primed and ready for use. 

HSCs are also favoured by these industries as they not only clean at high temperatures, but they utilise high-pressure chemical dosing, with dual-detergent capabilities. What this means is that the user can switch between or mix two cleaning chemicals easily, and apply them at high pressures. For example, when cleaning in a food factory you may utilise a detergent to clean down the workspace and equipment, before finishing it off with a disinfectant. The HSC facilitates this with a simple turning of a metring valve.

Which HSC should I get, and how can I get one?

The HSC range is much more condensed than other ranges with the HSC823, 1140 and 1240 making up the entire collection (excluding some alternatively powered models). A primary consideration, therefore, becomes electrical supply. The 823 requires only a mains 230V supply, while the 1140 and 1240 require a three-phase 415v supply.

Modification

We are often asked by our customers to modify and optimise their HSC pressure washers. For instance, with the upgrade of pump and motor units, we are able to greatly increase the power of HSCs so that they can support twin-gun set-ups. Doing this is a cost-effective means of doubling the cleaning potential of your pressure washer.

Installation

Here at Idropower, we can install your HSC for you. Generally, in the run-up to purchasing or hiring an HSC, we will discuss and assess your needs and the (possible) location(s) for your HSC. We can then install the HSC to those suggestions/requests. 

Standard or INOX?

The performance specification remains the same between standard and INOX. Instead, the difference is in the build materials. Where the standard HSC’s body is powder-coated, the INOX is stainless steel. Therefore, the primary consideration is whether stainless steel is something you need. For example, the INOXs stainless steel build is favoured for food hygiene.

Who needs an Ehrle HD?

In our experience, industrial and commercial businesses that require a high-performance hot pressure washer on site but need it to be manoeuvrable across that site favour the HD series. In other words, unlike for things like vehicles, which are themselves mobile, an HD is needed for objects and spaces that need to be deep cleaned, possibly sterilised (very high-temperature cleaning), but which span large premises and, potentially, multiple locations. (That being said, they do superb work on vehicles too. Many hauliers use our HD range too, for instance.)

In addition to this mobility, the HD’s dosing valve makes intensive detergent application a breeze. Therefore, companies that are required to maintain the highest level of hygiene and need to apply detergents and chemicals frequently benefit from this mechanism.

For these reasons, the HD series is a hugely popular range amongst companies in the food and agricultural sectors. Often requiring the cleaning coverage of extensive premises or for a multitude of cleaning tasks, the HDs offer both the high-performance specifications and versatility that these businesses commonly require. 

Which HD should I get, and how can I get one?

Each HD  (623 – 1240) is a stalwart steam cleaner. All of them boast specifications (see below) that are enough to dominate the lion’s share of cleaning tasks. 

The main thing to bear in mind is the electrical power requirements for each machine. If an HD boasts the digit 23 in its model number, it means it is a single-phase pressure washer that can run from a mains 230V supply. If it boasts a 40 in its model number, it is a three-phase jet washer that requires a 400V supply. Obviously, therefore, you must have a suitable power supply for the desired steam cleaner.

The advantage of the 230V pressure washers, such as the HD 623 and HD 823, are there versatility. Running on a mains supply, standard three pin plug, its easier to find a power source for them.

The advantage of the 400V pressure washers, such as the HD 940, HD 1140 and HD 1240, is the additional power input. Power input equals power output. Therefore, running more powerful pump and motor combinations, the 400V pressure washers can also generate more pressure at higher flow rates.

What about the other models of HD that Ehrle do?

We list most of the available HDs on our website, and we may eventually list all of them. Being Ehrle’s No.1 UK dealer, we can supply the full range. However, based on our 25-years of experience, we have found certain specifications that suit our customers’ needs far beyond others. For instance, the HD1140 is a best seller, which is unsurprising given its hefty performance specifications and reliability. Therefore, we have decided to list those machines, in all series, that perform optimally for the cleaning work our customers tend to do. 

Modification

Beyond the base models, we can also modify some HD models. For example, we can alter parts in certain builds to add greater pressure and water flow outputs, improving their cleaning performance. This can be an economical means of getting a more powerful pressure washer. However, there can be things to bear in mind, such as power supply requirements and the work you are doing. Premium or Standard?

The performance specification remains the same between standard and premium options as the base HD remains exactly the same. Instead, the premium comes with a number of peripheral upgrades and extras. For example, a premium HD comes with a 20m hose reel rather than a 10m hose, and a turbo lance.

Hot or Cold?

Is hot water cleaning best for you? If you have a hot water and cold water machine of the same specifications, the hot water cleaner would likely make lighter work of a cleaning task than the cold water pressure washer. Heat simply helps loosen and break up dirt and grime. It’s particularly good at dispersing oily messes too. However, this comes at the cost of additional weight, size and power. 

The equivalent cold water range, to the HDs, is the Ehrle KD series. Not requiring a burner, or fuel tank to power that burner, the KDs are smaller. The KD 623, for instance, is about 100kg lighter than the HD 623. 

As the number relates to specifications, the KD 623, 823, 940 and 1140 boast the same pressure and water flow rates as their HD counterpart. Only, they are cold water machines. The KD range also extends into more powerful specifications too, with the KD 1340 and KD 1540 producing additional cold water cleaning power.

High-pressure Cleaning Centre

A cabinet steam cleaner, the Ehrle HSC1240 is a self-contained cleaning hub. Rigorously designed and refined over many, many years of service, the HSC1240 boasts a structure capable of storing not only the pressure washer itself but cleaning supplies as well! For example, the pump and motor are housed on an upper shelf leaving space for internal diesel (60-litres) and chemical storage (2  x 20-litres) below.

In addition to housing your high-pressure cleaning resources internally, the HSC1240’s external structure is plenty strong enough to support other cleaning equipment on its body. For instance, a hose reel and holders for guns and lances can be fitted to the sidewalls of your HSC, keeping all of your cleaning equipment in a fixed location.

The utility of the HSC1240 naturally entails customisation. For instance, one could exchange the space of one of the 20-litre detergent tanks for an internal hose reel. There are many ways to optimise an HSC for your needs.

Practical

The HSC1240 boasts a design that has been refined over many years by Ehrle, responding to feedback on how customers are using their equipment in practice. Unsurprisingly, therefore, they have not only added handy features that improve reliability, longevity, productivity and user safety but have simplified and streamlined them too.

The most powerful yet simple system is the HSC’s start-stop function. Effectively turning your trigger gun into a remote control, powering up the pump only when it is needed, the start-stop function reduces wear and tear on the working parts of your steam cleaner.

The total stop, optimal-flame monitor and leak-recognition systems are all, primarily, for safety. Ensuring the machine is powered down, if not used for a while, or if there is a fault that could develop into a serious or critical one, these systems are all automatic. They ensure the user’s safety, while also reducing the chance of costly damage.

Sporting a clear user interface, the pressure and temperature of an HSC can be varied. However, one easily overlooked and understated feature of the HSC1240 is its chemical dosing functionality. Again, a user variable function, the HSC1240 can apply chemicals at high pressures and at varying volumes. It can also do it, simultaneously (or alternatively), with two different detergents (stored inside the cabinet). Saving time and increasing user control, the use of integrated chemical dosing also reduces the need for additional equipment and storage, in the form of snow foamers etc.

High-performance

The HSC1240 is powered by a three-phase, two-motor system that runs at a life-sustaining (and ear sustaining!) 1400RPM. Generating a user-controllable 30 – 160BAR, 30 – 98°C and 5- 20LPM, the HSC1240 performance can easily be adjusted to match the demands of different cleaning tasks.

Utility, Storage & Customisation

Being stationary affords the HSC823 capabilities that mobile pressure washers simply can not provide. As a self-contained unit, for example, the HSC823 is rigorously constructed, with thick, strong walls (powder coated as standard; stainless steel as INOX) and a durable galvanised steel frame. Beyond the purely protective, however, the strength and scale of the HSC823’s structure grant it greater utility in the way of storage and customisation.

The HSC823 has space below its 2-motor system (high-pressure pump and heating) for various configurations of cleaning material and equipment. For example, the standard setup is for there to be a 60L diesel tank and two 20L detergent containers integrated inside and on the bottom shelf. However, we have also set up HSCs to contain an integrated 20m hose-reel in exchange for one of the 20L detergent containers, creating a small hole in the HSC’s wall for the hose to pass through.

It is also possible for the HSC’s external walls or nearby structures, such as brick/building walls to be utilised as storage devices. For example, the hose reel and holders for lances and guns can be fitted to these walls, turning your HSC into a cleaning hub with everything you need, right where you left it.

Controlled

The HSC823 utilises Ehrle’s prized Etronic II controls, which provide an array of useful and safety controls for the user. For example, the Etronic II facilitates an automatic start-stop system that effectively transforms your gun into a remote-control, and a total stop system that will shut down the pressure washer after 20-minutes of disuse, requiring a manual restart. Each offers multiple benefits, such as decreased wear on motors and seals, increased safety and convenience as the user does not need to return to the pressure washer to shut it down for medium lengthed pauses.

The Etronic II controls also run a number of other safety and reliability systems too, such as the optical flame monitor, leak recognition and use timer. Each of these systems monitor the internal, invisible parts of your machine checking it is functioning correctly. In the event of a fault they will shut the machine down to restrict damage, potentially saving on repair costs.

The HSC823, like many of Ehrle’s pressure washers, also comes with a chemical dosing valve. Controlled much like temperature and pressure, the chemical dosing valve allows you to increase or decrease the volume of chemical injected into the pump, for high-pressure application. The perk here is saved time and space as the detergent application can take place simultaneously with high pressure cleaning and there is no need for specific devices such as a foaming lance (which also can only practically hold about 1-2L of detergent). 

Capable of holding two 20L detergent tanks (see “Utility, storage and customisation”), the HSC823 also has two chemical inlets, meaning one can blend or alternate between two types of cleaning chemical easily. For example, one tank could contain a soap, while the other a disinfectant.

High-pressure & High-performance

Pumping out 140BAR of pressure at up to 98°C and 12LPM, the HSC823 is fitted with Ehrle’s prized triplex-pump design. The HSC823 is able to produce these numbers while also being powered by a 230V mains supply, making it a more compatible solution for many.

The HD940 is a hot water pressure washing masterpiece. Boasting Ehrle’s prized, high-performance triplex-pump design, the Ehrle HD940 can turn out a knee-weakening 190BAR of pressure at 98°C, 14LPM and 1400RPM.

Commanding Cleaning

HSC1140s are fitted with a range of powerful control systems (Etronic II) that make your work easier and safer. Moreover, all of these systems are controlled automatically or by straightforward analogue controls that are situated on the front of the machine.

The first pair of these systems is a start-stop and total-stop system. The former, the start-stop operation, serves you in two ways. The first is by effectively turning your trigger gun into a remote control, which saves your legs and time. The second benefit is reduced energy consumption and wear and tear on the pump. Similar, to how start-stop systems work on cars, when your trigger is released the pump will move into standby mode, waiting for you to press the trigger.

The total-stop system is primarily for safety, shutting the machine down after 20 minutes of disuse, requiring a total restart. It is easy to be distracted at work and for that distraction to last longer than you expect. The total-stop system simply means anyone who returns to the HSC is forced to deliberately and safely restart the machine before using it.

In excess of these automatic functions, the Etronic II system also controls several other reliability and safety systems, such as the optical flame monitor, leak recognition and use timer. Each of these systems keeps an eye on the internal, invisible operations of your steam-cleaner, ensuring it operates smoothly, safely and that any faults do not develop into costly repairs.

Chemical dosing is another user-controlled function that the Ehrle HSC1140 boasts. Capable of harbouring two 20L detergent tanks, the chemical dosing system can also be used to easily alternate between or combine the two types of detergent. For example, one tank could be a form of soap, while the other a disinfectant. The chemical dosing valve makes it easy to switch between these types of detergent and also to control their application.

High-performance

Powered by a three-phase, two-motor system that runs at a lower, life-sustaining, 1400RPM, the HSC1140 can run between 30 – 180BAR, 30 – 98°C and 5 – 16.6LPM.
